Here are some tips to protect yourself

• Secure your personal information- Be sure that all of your personal information including your social security card, birth certificate, passport and any important information is stored in a safe place, preferably in a locked box.
• Be aware of your surrounding- Be sure no one is listening to your conversation when you are giving personal information over the phone.
• When using an ATM machine, cover the keypad with your hand when entering your PIN number.  You never know who’s watching.
• Do not store credit card numbers and other financial information on your cell phone.
• Keep your vehicle registration and insurance forms in a sealed envelope in your glove box and lock it and your car when at home or away.
• Use you own computer when conducting business online.  A public computer is less secure, as is wireless Internet.
• Keep system and browser software up to date and set to the highest security level you can tolerate.
